Year I joined the Stella Niagara Faculty
2017
Personal
My name is Laura Moore and I am very excited to be your child’s second grade teacher this year! I am a graduate of SUNY Geneseo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood and Special Education and a Master’s Degree in Literacy (B-6). I have five years of experience working with students in schools including a year as a Pre-K teacher. Each day, I strive to inspire an enthusiasm for learning in my students.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe a classroom should be a place where students feel valued, respected and nurtured. It is the role of the teacher to create this positive learning environment and to differentiate instruction to meet the learning needs of each child. Students are able to reach their potential when they are given opportunities to process and apply learning in meaningful ways.
Describe what students will learn in your class
Students will learn and apply comprehension strategies such as predicting, questioning and summarizing as they study fiction and non-fiction texts. Word study instruction will center on studying patterns used to spell groups of words. In writing, students will apply the writing process as they craft pieces such as autobiography, opinion and informational. Mathematics instruction will focus on applying problem solving strategies in addition and subtraction. I look forward to a fun-filled year of learning in second grade!
