Cleveland Magazine recently published an article called the Benefits of Nature Based Learning. The article explains how early childhood programs with lesson plans that contain outdoor components provide a valuable foundation. In addition, it explains how nature based learning promotes problem-solving skills, scientific and mathematical exploration, language and pre-literacy skills.
At Stella Niagara Education Park, we added an Outdoor Education component to all aspects of our curriculum at the beginning of 2016. The article from Cleveland Magazine explains: “Outdoor classrooms and other nature-based learning experiences boost academic performance, according to a study by the American Institutes of Research. Students in outdoor science programs improved their testing scores by 27 percent.”
